England`s Beth Mead has spoken out against hosting the World Cup in Qatar.
Mead, who is in a relationship with her Arsenal teammate Vivianna Midema, has said that Qatar`s ban on homosexuality is the complete opposite of what she believes in and respects.
I don`t support it. It is disappointing that there is no respect on many levels, even though this is football.
Although I`m rooting for the guys who will play there, but from the minute the venue was announced, I thought that this was not the best idea. We live in the 21st century and you fall in love with who you fall in love with. It doesn`t matter who they are, " Beth said in an interview with BBC Radio 4
The 27-year-old won the Golden Boot and was named Player of the Tournament at this year`s European Championship.
